BMW GINA Pics and Video

The BMW Gina light visionary model is a concept car made from fabric instead of sheet metal. See these pictures to believe it.

BMW has unveiled its GINA Light Visionary Model concept car on June 10, 2008. The BMW Gina Light Visionary concept car showcases the direction that BMW’s designs may take, and new materials and technologies that BMW plans to adopt in the future.

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car uses fabric as the skin that allows drivers to change the shape of the car at will, unlike rigid structures.

The fabric skin of the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car is used to cover metal wires, which can be moved to achieve different shapes using electro-hydraulic devices. How does it all hang together? Well, wire mesh and carbon fiber.

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car allows the driver to change both the exterior and interior of the car for as many number of times as desired. So you want a low-slung skirt - you got it. Want a spoiler, you got that too! The headlights are revealed when the fabric moves apart, and the engine is accessed when the bonnet seemingly splits to reveal its innards.

Another plus for the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car is that its lighter and can be made out of materials that require less energy to make them. In a video on BMW-web.tv, titled BMW GINA Light Visionary Model: Premiere , Chris Bangles, Director of Design BMW Group, says GINA is an acronym that stands for Geometry (shapes), function (how things work), N for Infinite number of Adaptations. He adds, “The GINA philosophy is about flexibility. Thinking flexible. Acting Flexible.”

Earlier, BMW had also revealed a teaser video that shows the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car being transported to the BMW museum in Munich.

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car may or may not find its way into production, but it may be the precursor of new material alternatives that are lighter and more fluid. The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car may also provide new design inputs because of its shape-changing abilities.

Aston Martin One 77

The stunning Aston Martin One-77 costs £1.2 million. The name of this cool sports car is down to the fact that Aston Martin are only going to produce 77 of these beauties, hence the cool price!

What what do you get for £1.2 million ($2.4 million)? Here is the sports cars credentials:
  • 7.0-liter V12 engine
  • Carbon fiber chassis
  • Handcrafted aluminum body
  • 0 to 60 in 3.5-seconds
  • Top Speed 220mph

It’s a very special car for customers who want to take the bespoke experience to a higher level,” company chairman David Richard told Autocar. “Every car will be entirely individual.”

As for Aston Martin’s decision to build just 77, it’s said to have stemmed from Bez’s belief that seven is a lucky number. It certainly is for those fortunate enough to get one.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera

This super car is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, and it's super cool!  561 horsepower from a perky 5.2-liter V10. The Superleggera also weighs just 2,954 pounds, 33 pounds less than a Porsche Boxster! After all, Superleggera means "light weight" in Italian and the weight savings mostly come from carbon fiber with the rest of the fat being trimmed off the lightweight aluminum wheels.

There's no denying it, as cool cars go, this is a cool car especially in screaming Lamborghini green. The massive aggressive Reventon-inspired front air intakes are great but check out the giant rear diffuser! Price has not been disclosed yetso we will update this once we have heard.

Aston Martin Cut in Half

Cool pictures of an Aston Martin car with one half built and the other half exposed to show the mechanics. This Aston Martin was photographed outside Cooper Square Hotelin New York. Rarely do you get to see the inside of a car and it just shows that under a sweet shell, there is very little different to 'conventional' cars...except all the parts used are far superior...and that goes for the engine too!

One Off Zonda Tricolore

Check out this cool car! It's the Pagani Zonda Tricolore and it's undergone another change prior to the C9 launch which will be with us very soon. The new Tricolore is a Zonda based on the unique Cinque model. There will be a single Zonda Tricolore created and it will sell for $1.75 million. This model is special because it will have an Italian flag paint job, followed by a new set of exterior pieces. It will be strutting it stuff at the Geneva Show and if these pictures are anything to go by, it will be a hit!
